Ground Hog Day Leaders

Groundhog Leaders

The movie “Groundhog Day” seems to be reality for many people. New day — same story.

Get up.

Go to work.

Do the same job that you’ve done for 5, 10, 20 years.

Go home.

Eat.

Watch TV.

Go to bed.

Repeat.

If that’s really how someone chooses to live their life — they’re not growing. They’re not dreaming. They’re not expanding their world. And they don’t have anything to look forward to. No wonder anti-depressants are prescribed more than any other class of medication.

Unfortunately we see Groundhog LEADERS inside a lot of organizations including multi-national’s, family-based businesses and non-profits. Groundhog Leaders snuff out hope and encourage apathy. They create a culture of pessimism. And they blame their lack of success on the economy or the competition or anything else handy – that way they don’t have to face the reality they’ve created in the mirror.

We’ve spotted Groundhog Leaders:

· Holding Monday meetings -- every Monday -- even though there is nothing discuss.

· Continuing to distribute reports – that no one reads or understands.

· Killing innovation with the phrase “that’s the way it’s always been done.”

· Pretending that there is no need to change – even as the organization falls apart.

How are YOUR Groundhog Leaders behaving?

What do you wish they were doing instead?
